Day 11 into the cycle

Tested my water yesterday my ammonia was at 2 my nitrite was a 1 + and my nitrate was 50. Today my ammonia is 0.8 the nitrite is still a 1+ and the nitrate is a strong 50. I’m guessing this is a nitrite spike. Am I ok or should I do a small water change?

No need to do water changes while cycling, just wait until ammonia and nitrites become undetectable.

Also, in order to give any info on cycle we have to know if you are using dry rocks or live rock from the pet store, with live animals in/on it

I used dry rock witch I soaked in bleach for 3 days. I then power wash the rock and left in the sun for about two months. I then stored for about a month. I then set up my tank with 60 pounds of live sand no live rock.

If you added a little zip of bottle bac / with the ammonia you mentioned above, and an additional 30 days, your reef can’t fail to cycle

Literally all you’d have to do is wait until day 40 in your current conditions, even if you added nothing else, change out most or all the water, then fill back up and it’s cycled. The time factor is all that’s left

The cycle will occur before that time, but if you’ve got forty days then you can do it without further testing which is neat. Testing wastewater is different than testing that post cycle water change water, it will read normal at the forty day mark after that change
