400 gallon and bigger aquariums what dc pump did you go with and why I have a 650 gallon and I'm trying to decide on my options

For return, or what?

Why DC?
I have a 350 gallon aquarium now for my return pump is a gold hammerhead Reflow and after 6 months it was leaking right out of the seal not a fan of these pumps if I go with these type of pumps I was thinking to go dolphin but everyone's telling me DC pumps are way better power less Heat I'm trying to plan differently from a 650 gallon

I have used a dolphin amp master for almost 15 years. I just replaced it last year with a new one. They are tanks. DC pumps do intrigue me though.

I'll second the Dolphins....but I'm curious about what happened with your pump. Did you call them for warranty service?

(I know that doesn't help with the leak or the overall experience....just curious.)

Also, what is the head pressure you're dealing with? Sorry just noticed this is for a future upgrade.

There are only three benefits to using a DC pump. You can regulate the speed, if that is something you want to do. I don't care about that. They will also "not" induct electricity in the water, if that is a concern of yours. The last thing is they are safer. It is better to have a 12 volt device in your water than a 120 volt device. If you keep triggers or puffers they can eat through the power cord. (only once) Besides those things, I see no advantages. But that's just me.

Power supply is outside the tank, due to an external pump. You can regulate amount of flow with a dolphin using a ball valve. However, it is a pain to do this manually. Thanks for the info.

The leak eventually stopped on its own by Salt Creep what size is your aquarium
