Dead baby clown

I have a pair of clowns and 3 other fish in my 32 biocube and I just got home from work and the small clown is dead! My water is mostly fine, salt is a little low and my alk is at 7. Would that have killed him? Also I put a pistol shrimp in there a couple months ago and haven’t seen him since then. Maybe he killed it? All the other fish and corals appear fine. Any advice welcome.

How recent was the latest addition to the tank?
Any aggression from the rest of the fish (notably the bigger clown).
“Mostly fine” doesn’t say much, numbers help more with water params. Though clowns are very hardy, I doubt they are the first to go due to params.

No aggression with the other fish at all but the bigger clown did nip at him. My salt is 1.024 no nitrates or nitrites and ph is at 8. Maybe she killed her mate.

Salt a little low and ALk of 7 no way killed the clown unless that salt is way low and got there fast . for instance if your salt were 1.020 and consistent it would have no ill effect on the fish. But if it dropped from 1.026 to 1.015 fast that could be a problem

And my calcium was high. Forgot about that. I had my water tested at my fish store and it was a bit over 500.

You’d be seeing everything get affected if it was a param issue. Aggression is definitely possible.
Did the clown look or act off?

No! He was eating and swimming around before I left for work. I was gone for 7 hours. Also there’s another fish missing as well.

I had velvet in October and waited until January to add fish back so I’m hoping it’s not that again!

As for new additions just some ricordias, a royal gramma who doesn’t bother anyone and a green chromis baby. He’s missing too.

No I don’t have a quarantine tank set up which I know is bad. I need to get one going.

Sorry if you already answered this but did the baby clown look beat up? have any signs of illness? whats the other fish that went missing?

If the chromis went missing and now the clown died, sounds like a disease is in play. Did anyone look off?

I had a pistol shrimp from FL waters and several of my smaller fish disappeared. Now that the pistol shrimp is in the sump, no one has gone missing. So I put my bid on the pistol shrimp, especially if it's the bigger FL variety.

My guess is this was a tiger or candy though - which are harmless.
Though you do raise a good point if it was a bigger meaner type.
