I bought this dead coral frag (for looks) along with liverock from a liverock container at my LFS. Since than I noticed a growth similar to a polyp? and long tentacle/s or something string like . My tank is only 3 1/2 weeks old but added nite-out and liverock and seems to have cycled ok SO FAR. Anyways I'm saying I am new to all this. So will this "frag" remain dead, possibly make a come back, or is the growth just like algea? Any info is great info. Just not sure who to ask these questions

Probably aiptasia.

Why would they sell you that? Should have given it to you for $Free.99

And if it’s aiptasia, either kill it now or get ready for a tank full of pests. I really can’t believe they sold you that

I just threw it away.. just incase that is what it is. There was a bin with live rock, conch shells, a frag or 2. All for use of cycling or adding rock to the tank. So it really was one of the first pieces I added along with the rock for looks

In the last pic it looks like red leafy macro algae. I would not have bought the dead coral skeleton to start with but would have tossed it right away once I saw that. You dont want anything that can take over your tank. When you are new you think it's cool of pretty but once its everywhere you will kick yourself. I thought bubble algae was so cool when I first started until I had it taking over all my rock and powerheads. Many have the same story with aptasia.

If this is what you were talking about, it looks like aiptasia, and I would have tossed it too.
