Dead fish in quarantine tank

Hi,

I have a 10 QT tank that had 2 Benggai Cardinalfish and a Firefish.

Just noticed that the Firefish died and had to flush it down the toilet. It looked fine yesterday and am surprised it died. Is there something i should be looking for from a water chemistry perspective? Ammonia levels look low on the ammonia alert.

Also, do i need to restart my quarantine count down or do I act like nothing happened??

Part of BBC the problem is

Part B of the problem may be the ammonia badge. Like api test kits, they are less than reliable and often produce false readings in which your levels may be higher
Badges work in freshwater and saltwater environments making the measurements tricky on reliability
I would suggest taking a good water sample to a trusted LFS that does Not use API test kits and see what readings they come up with.
I’m also surprised 2 banghai cardinals and no fighting as of yet
Would be great if they’re not and girl

Ammonia badges are not that bad. Also the API ammonia test is a little off. It tends to read 0 ammonia as a low level of ammonia. But you can use Salifert for ammonia.

But fish go through all sorts of things getting from the natural environment to your quarantine tank. And sometimes they die. It could have been a situation like that.
