Hello all. I moved a couple rocks few days ago. I realized this morning, when i moved them, i accidentally trapped a mussel clam that was on one rock when i bought it. It was alive. I thought it could possibly still be alive so i tried to move the rock again to save it but it fell to the sand bed it was already dead. Then this milky slime started coming out. I ran got my net and fished it out. By this time, about less than a minute, some had leaked out. Water didnt cloud up but it smells like dead rotting fish. Just nasty! Anyone know if this will clear up on its own or if dangerous in any way? It really really stinks. 65 gallon 19 gal sump

Make sure your carbon is fresh or add carbon, it should be fine, that's why we like our systems to work, in that volume it should hardly be a blip! ;)
How old is the tank?

Its 9 mnths old. I have filter sock, gfo and protein skimmer running. What kind of carbon should i have?

I sure had a rough start and im finally fully stocked and been running good im terified this is gonna cause a crash or something...and worried the smelly water will not go away. I just did a 30% water change too i hope i dont have to do another this quickly cause of this.

Does it seem to have affected anything in your tank ie fish corals etc. ?

I dont have corals yet...but i have fish. They seem fine. I keep checking on everything. I stuck a seachem ammonia badge from my QT in but its been out of water in storage for 2 months not sure if itll work again after not being in water that long. I have an Flame Angel and Pearlscale butterfly i know them two are highly intolerant of ammonia so mostly worried about them as far as fish go.

It will be fine. Go out to dinner and have a nice glass of Merlot. Unless a Manta Ray also died, it will not be a problem, if it was a problem, you would immediately notice your tank would be cloudy and the stink would force you to go to a nice hotel. You could have the Merlot there.

Great to hear. Like i said Ive had a long rough road to get everything stable and actually living i cant help but freak when an unknown problem arises. Ill have to pass on the Merlot too my 5 mnth old wouldnt like the taste or affect in his milk i supply lol
