dead or alive?

i feel silly for asking but i dont want to throw away a live snail...so how in the world can you tell if a snail has died or if it is just hanging out in its shell(just added them to my tank) ammonia 0ppm nitrite 0ppm nitrate 5-10 ppm ph 8.0

uhhh...i think it is a Astraea turbo snail

If you see the hermits and other snails go inside the shell and pull out stuff, its dead.
