Dead outlets on my EB8... send it back, or just use what's working?

Hey guys,

So I have two outlets that are dead on my EB8 (its at least 5 years old, so not too big of a deal... plus one of those was my fault... way too much power through a triac channel... DOH!). I contacted Neptune and its $50 for the first outlet and $10 for everyone after that. I'm kind of hesitant to send it in for two in case another one dies. I'm thinking about just waiting and seeing if any more die before sending it in. At the same time, they probably won't die.

I have another EB8 being delivered today so I can get my automatic water changes going again and setup a few other things I've been wanting, so I've got enough outlets fortunately. What would you guys do?

Since you've got the new one already coming in I would send the defective one in for repairs and keep as a back up or to add more gizmos.

Always add more gizmos.

I have a blown outlet on each of mine and I plan to fix it myself. It's just a relay that got blown out. How hard can it be to replace??? It's already broke, I say crack the case and see if you can fix it yourself.

I wish it was the relays... its actually the triacs in my case. Both of my relay outlets are fine. :-/

Even then, the control circuits could be goofed, so I wouldn't want to risk screwing up more things I don't think. I'm with you, though... if it was just the relays that weren't working, I'd be all over those. Not so much with the triacs, although now that you mention it, it could still be worth a shot... crack it open and see if I can find a part number. Hmmm...

So you found out the outlets are proprietary on these? I am considering sending mine back again to get each outlet replaced. But it would probably be $50 each plus shipping as I'll only be able to send one EB8 at a time; and that's if I can find a spare to use while I'm shipping mine back and forth.

To be honest, I never opened it up. I was quoted for $50 the first outlet and $10 for each one after that. You can almost buy a new one instead of having them all replaced, unfortunately.

Just buy another one as a spare. Never hurts to have more outlets.

Ah ok. I was talking to someone at the meeting about this but couldn't remember who... Either way, they said the outlets are proprietary and couldn't be replaced even if you had the skills to take them apart and put them back together.

I don't need the outlets but wouldn't mind having them all work, ya know??? I'll see what they reply back with and go from there.

Got a spare for me to borrow??? :neutral:

I do know. I'm just living with two dead outets for now, personally. I'd rather invest $60 plus shipping into a new EB8 than pay that much to have 2 outlets repaired.

No spares here, unfortunately.
