dead rock

right now I have it in a rubber made tote with live sand and saltwater using a powerhead for water flow is there any chemical consitter getting to help with the process or is that the wrong way of doing it

I heartily recommend Dr. Tim's One and Only when starting with dry rock. :) I like to get mine at amazon.com because it's substantially cheaper than where I'd have to get it otherwise. Make sure you get the reef version.

You will still be left with a deficit of DEnitrifiers (as you would with most bacteria starters) but I believe microbe-lift special blend may contain those, and personally I have had good results dosing Dr. Tim's Waste-Away (I got it to where my nitrate was reading 0 on the API test kit WITHOUT a skimmer!) over time. When I moved the tank that all got messed up >.< but it does work.

You really can't OD the One and Only, but do NOT overdose the waste-away or combine it with similar products (such as the microbe-lift special blend)!!! You can create a deadly oxygen drop if you do. If you wish to use a different additive, stop dosing one week minimum (two is better) before using the new one.

When you first begin dosing any denitrifier products, use a half-dose. It can also be prudent to add an airstone when dosing until the bacterial bloom it will create has passed.

Thats how its done, your on the right track. But in order to have it team with life again, your going to have to get another piece of Live Rock and throw it in the tank, this is where all the life will come from, as your other rock is toast.

All I have done the past is a small "live" rock from my tank or where ever and toss in with dry rock and let nature take it course.
