Hi guys I bought lots of dead rock today getting ready for my marine tank.
The lfs guy said to soak it in tap water till ready to put in tank is this right?

Do you have access to RO/DI water?

IMO I would just wait, you can rinse the dry rock off and allow it to dry out, are you trying to start it cycling?

I can only say what I would do, and placing it to soak in "tap water" is not something I would personally do.

That is stupid advice. Really stupid. Keep it aside until the tank is ready for it as someone else said. Don't listen to any advice from that moron again.

Well you'd think it was already clean. If it was me, I'd mix up some saltwater (using RO water) in a home depot bucket or some other container that the rock will fit in and start it cycling. Use a powerhead to keep the water circulating. Depending on how long you are waiting to use it you could also ghost feed a couple of flakes of food a day or find some 100% ammonia to use (just a couple of drops). This will get your bacterial going.
