Dead Rocks - is it stupid to be sad?

The more I am learning about salt water aquariums and their inhabitants the more closely I look at my tank and want to learn about it.

I have live rock in there as well as "dead rock" that came with the second hand tank I bought. There is one of the pieces that looks like it was a zoa colony. Makes me sad that they are no longer alive because itust have looks awesome. At least 6 inches across.

That to me looks like some kind of a lps skeleton, zoas are softies and if/when they die they would usually disappear(melt) overnight.

It is sort of a depressing hobby if you like at it like that. But, by keeping reef aquariums, we may be able to enlighten someone to the plight of our oceans. The way I have looked at this hobby that everything that we harvest out of the ocean died when we took it from where it belongs. It may still be alive in a little glass cage but it will never live free in the wild again. The important part is to act responsibly with our purchases and maintaining the story of reef inhabitants.
