Just picked up this sea urchin 2 weeks ago for a huge algae spike.. water permiters were all good
I just noticed it now though
Where did it go and the Spikes?? So sad
My stock is harmless. 2 clowns and starfish
Also came across this . Thought it was neat . Not sure where it came from
Could it have been inside with the urchin?

The first photo is what an urchin looks like when it is dead.

The other two photos are the "traps" for snails. My guess is turbos.

They drop the spikes in the tank. The spikes are probably behind the rocks. Pincushion? I have found them to be very hardy. Higher N and P can slow them down and kill them. So can algaecides - if you have used any supplement lately for algae, that could be your issue.

Many authors suggest that urchins need an extended acclimatinon period before placing them in the home aquarium, but I've never found that to be particularly critical. I have had a couple of tuxedos die on me, but that's been after four to six months in the aquarium.

It's also possible that the urchin was nearing the end of its life or ingested a toxin that killed it.
