I just got this "ultra orange" mushroom and it's still acclimating. I can't tell if it's dead or if the vendor overly edited the picture to make it look a lot nicer. Top picture is what I ordered, bottom picture is what I got. Maybe I got sent the wrong one?

It's not dead, but it is severely bleached. The vendor essentially sent you a visibly sick coral, which is unfortunate. Keep her in a relatively shady spot for a while and attempt to spot feed her with fish food, and she may just come around. Rhods are incredibly resilient.

Thank you for the confirmation. I've read that it's very hard for color to recover from bleaching due to high intensity light. So assuming this shroom will survive fine, will it ever get its color back like how QCC pictured it?

Yes - the vendor photo is overly saturated.

Yes - the shroom is recovering but not dead. Looks like it's getting blasted with light. You may want to put it in low-PAR area of the tank.

Based on how incredibly blued out the original pic was, I don't think it will, but you never know. Mushrooms are unpredictable.

Please bear in mind that the original photo was blasted with actinic and yours appears to be closer to daylight.
My picture was actually taken under actinic light as well, on a XR15 G6 blue, but I used a blue filter lens. Here is another picture, the mushroom in question is bottom right.

If I keep it long enough, I'm hoping it will propagate babies that has the original color. That's all I'm banking for at this moment.

I live in PA but have family in NC. I'm down there 3-4 times a year and always stop in their shop. I've only ever seen 1 coral on their site that didn't match their pics and it was a yellow vs green. I would get in touch with them, they might be interested in crediting you or giving you a discount code off a future order.

The zooxanthellae has left the building with this mushroom . Imo chances are slim that it will come back . I’ve personally tried to bring a few back throughout the years even buying live zooxanthellae but at best only to slow the digression . There is a person who has far more experience with mushrooms in this club . She goes by “ Katherine corals “ . Look her up and PM her ,she might have better info to help . If you have success please share . If it were me , I’d be seriously getting my money back if that is how they sent it to you .

Any update on how it's doing?

Yep quick update. This bleached shroom never recovered. It kept shrinking more and more until 2 weeks later, it withered to almost nothing.

QCC offered store credit, but I asked for a refund instead. 4 of the 5 corals I bought from them had issues, doubt I'll purchase from them anymore.

Sorry for your loss . Hope for better luck in the future .
