Dead spot on coral

Bought this coral as a frag a few months ago. it has grown a little bit since then but I am starting to notice a dead spot on the bottom left side of the coral. Water quality is all in range. Is it because the coral is growing and not allowing light to hit that area?

My guess would be an Alkalinity spike or something similar caused that to happen.

Alk has always been between 8-9 and Calcium is in the 420 -440 range. You don't think not getting enough light in that area would cause it?

I get the same thing on my tri-color bali acropora off and on. Just keep algae off the area it will grow back eventually.
