Please, can anyone help me figure this out. Some background info- I just fed algea and frozen food to the tank a day ago. I also did a water change 3 days ago. Yesterday everything was looking good except I noticed a little white patch on my purple tang and just thought it was a scratch. Today I get home and the tang is nose down tail up in the corner of my tank. I poke to see if anything is wrong and sure enough that white spot is huge and he’s dead. Anyone have any ideas as to what happened?

A white light photo of the tang will make it much easier to ID but it sounds like a Bacterial Infection

Yeah I didn’t think of that when i was dealing with it. Unfortunately that’s the best picture I have. I went to my LFS and a guy I trust believes that the colorless areas had to do with stress and that’s what ultimately caused it, I just posted on here to get others opinions. None of my other fish have any similar spots so it doesn’t seem unreasonable to leave it as a stress related death

Stress doesn’t cause discolouration like that.
It was almost definitely something else brought on through stress. Most likely a bacterial infection. The fins also look rather torn up, which can often be a sign of a bacterial infection.
