Hi guys

Wee urchin hadn't moved in few days and checked today... brown bread and shell was hollow
Would a blue hermit crab attack an urchin for its shell ??

Also would it cause any harm leaving the empty shell in the tabk ??? Looks cool

urchins are hard to adjust when newly introduced. They also die easier when the tank is unstable. A hermit crab will not attack the urchin for their shell. It will be acceptable to leave the empty shell in the tank, as time passes it will crumble into pieces.

Cheers ... sad momenr t as first casualty in the tank... gonna raise a pint of Guinness to celebrate its short life

I would take the shell out, they will inevitably break into a billion pieces in the tank. If you want to keep it as decor/memento just scrub gently with a tooth brush & H2O2 until the shell is white then display on a shelf :) I like collecting these from the ocean and keeping them as decorations

Many urchins starve to death. They eat alot and many tanks, especially new ones, can't support their needs. If you decide to get another and want to keep them for a long time, you can supplement their feeding with various algae foods.
