I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but what happened to our once vibrant, engaged community of reefers? I'm not one known for posting contentious topics but it seems lately that it takes a lot to get people to contribute to the forum. I encourage everyone to post, if for no other reason than to satisfy my selfish need to satisfy my reef addiction and desire to help people in their pursuit of the hobby. I keep checking the forum to look for input, whether it be questions, comments, pictures, or general diatribe about what people are doing with their aquariums but often come up feeling let down by the lack of postings. This forum used to be very dynamic and I encourage everyone out there to contribute! We all can benefit from the exchange and the monthly meetings should be supplemented with online exchanges and dialogs. Post away!

Certain to be flamed but so be it,
Dave

I check R2R at lease 10x a day (including ETRC) but I am still in the process of picking out my tank so I have very little to contribute. Give me a couple of months and I will be asking more questions than you will want to answer.....

I'm not trying to be critical with my post, just missing the good 'ole days I suppose. I welcome your future posts! Trust me, I'm in the business of answering questions but I caution you, I will only answer if I'm pretty confident in my response. My lack of an answer is not from lack of seeing a post in the local forum but more of a lack of confidence in my answer. Don't hesitate to ask away!

As much as some try some people do not appreciate a helpful club person. In the days of fear thy neighbor and careful what you say people are becoming more distant and also quick to judge true intentions when people like us are true fully and honestly helpful.

I turned 50 last year so perhaps I don't appreciate this point of view of the younger reefer. I truly mean to try and help and in my generation, this was the way people just help one another. EXCELLENT POINT and a perspective I had not considered. Thanks for your insight.

Dave

No problem I'm mid 30s and it's not just here it's all over. I appreciate help and wisdom. I do feel the generations below you are going to make mistakes that unneeded due to the outlook

I think I could trust your answers knowing what I know about you, you are a very wise man and I enjoy reading your posts and enjoy your company, I have learned a lot from you.

I am on here all day on my cell phone I'm a so addicted it hurts. Lol Most of the time somebody has already beaten me to being helpful. I should update my tank thread more often but sometimes I forget how even the most mundane things can be helpful and insightful in the future So I do not post them.

Thanks, KJ, that means a lot coming from a fellow SPS addict!

It is funny this came up as today I was accused of having other intentions other than being helpful. It is sad the world has become this way

For me, with so many folks on here I normally can get the answers to my questions if I do a quick topic search. So for the most part there's no need for me to post. But know that I am usually always lurking around in random forums and do post when I feel opinionated about something

I agree with you Cee. When I first joined the fourm a few months back in seemed like the members were pretty involved. Since then I have seen a steady decrease in the activity of the forum. Days without a single post. I understand life gets busy however. I am finishing up my bachelors degree in the next few weeks so I have been pretty busy myself and tight on cash so my progress has came to a screeching stop.

Do we have like a subforum or area where members post pictures of there tanks? I would love to see some of the local tanks and what you guys are keeping as well as your success and failures.

I say do all you can to help your fellow man and derive satisfaction from the quality of the knowledge you provide in spite of what others may think. When my wife was diagnosed with brain cancer only to suffer a stroke a week later from the brain surgery I stopped worrying about what others thought and honestly, in spite of her condition, have never more content in life.

Cee those are strong words and so very true and send thoughts on what you and your wife have gone through.

Start a thread in this forum or elsewhere! I enjoy the dialog and welcome the participation! We all can benefit from one another's experiences and can't share that if we don't post. I've been accused of being "abrupt" by my boss so don't take it personally if I blurt out something but I try to tone it down on the forums since you never know how someone will interpret a post (I never try to offend anyone).
