The toadstool I lost was much smaller than yours but when it died it turned to dust. Pieces started flaking away, holes developed, and after a few days it was completely gone, like it had never been there.

It's just up set. The more you mess with the more it will stay shut. They get real shiny and shed. Mine can stay closed for days before opening up.
