Dealing with nutrients after Blackout and Dino-X

Alright so tonight will be my third dose of Dino X. Yesterday I decided to do a blackout for 24 hours to get some of the string of Dino into the water column as from what I understand that helps the Dino-X work better.

Well it appears that it worked. My phos has jumped from 0.06 to 0.15 and my nitrates went from 12 to 20.

Now I'm kinda stuck... I think I still want to do another dose of Dino-X tonight for good measure, but how should I proceed with getting the nutrients down?

Fauna Marine says not to run any absorbents during treatment, so GFO is out. I can't run my refugium due to the red lights seemingly causing increasing numbers of dinos (i removed all the macro weeks ago anyways).

Should I start dosing Vodka? (VERRRRRRRY slowly of course).

Why can't you put a cheap globe type light with an led bulb or something like that over fuge? I can't imagine that alone would cause dinos to spread rapidly through your system? I got rid of dinos by doing a 48 hour, then a 24 hour blackout only with no lights, then reduced my light power for 48 more hours. I also removed as much manually first before doing so. Do you have coral? If you don't, I wouldn't worry about the nutrients. Are you still feeding your system during the blackout?

Guess I'm concerned about a nutrient spike given that that tank has a bunch of SPS.

True. If it's only for at most 48 hours I can't imagine any of them dying. It's possible, but I don't think you have a choice.

You could try doin the blackout, massive water change, then blackout for another 24 hours... this might keep them from springing back up.

Short term hey should be fine besides maybe losing a little color but much better than a sheet of dino growing cross it.

If you decide to carbon dose I personally would choose a mixed carbon source, like zeoStart or NoPOx. Not saying you should or shouldn't carbon dose though either. It is very easy to overdo it, especially if your don't know how your tank's bacterial population are going to handle it. So I would keep a source of nitrate (like KNO3) and a source of phosphate (like TriSodium Phosphate Na3PO4) just in case you go too far and get burnt tips! Good luck

I will have to pick your brain about the dinoX treatment, I have a bottle, I can't read the German directions. (My dinos just up and vanished so I don't need to use it but it would be nice for future reference.)

Edited to add: I would also dose a bacteria product simultaneously as the carbon source. It will ensure that you have a diverse bacterial population would should help significantly. Closed aquaria tend to favor localized populations of bacteria over time.
