Dealing with setbacks and frustration

Your corals look pretty good, but your water is cloudy means your reef is not mature yet. You don't have the bacteria to deal with this issue, I think. You just went too fast adding all the livestock if you started with dry rock. Dry rock takes longer to mature than live. Grab a piece of live rock and add it if you can if you started with dry rock. I started with Petco live rock and fish, I knew the girl there has several reef tanks at home and was very smart. Clowns are still alive today.
this makes no sense. Cloudy water is from bacteria, and all that he'd really have to do is dose some bacter7 and it would clear up. If his tank is cycled the rock is now 'live'. lawd.

Beautiful tank, I'm sitting here watching an 8 head ausi torch with a cool neon green base wither away and it used to huge the size of a cantelope. First noticed it on my big duncan colony, then my dragon soul torch closed up and died, then a hammer closed up. Now my larger torch corals are closing up.
Had the exact same issue.. wiped out my lps. I still don't know why and I'm afraid to add more LPS and then having them die on me for some unknown reason.

Sorry you having problems.
All i can say is research lots on stuff that you plan to add to your tank but also research on as much other things as you can just incase you start to have them problems so you can spot start of problems then rectify but like most things in life sometimes we are powerless and can do nothing ( trick is knowing which ones) for me i havent really had no problems except a leather toadstool i think i put in wrong location and the flow was to strong and the string that the lfs put on to hold it to the rubble frag it ripped off the day before i went on holiday that im still on now so last day before holiday was mad dash trying get activated carbon to put in sump incase leather coral released toxins and leather coral i put in my qt/ hospital tank to recover whilst away,if it survives idk but im at 7- 8 months into hobby and i go slow, only added 5 corals, keep my hands out of tank as much as i can to let the tank do its own thing, but if we start having negative things that happen in life we must look for the positives no matter how small and i got taught try not to use negative words so example is " my reef tank is FAILING and evwrything going WRONG and i DONT know what to do,and its a DISASTER and i will NEVER be a successfull reefer " as we say last sentence to someone or even to ourselves in our heads our own heads pick out all the negative words ( ones in capitals) and negativity breeds negativity but better way way to say it would be " im struggling at the moment but I WILL do what is needed to be more SUCCESSFUL in my reef tank and ask for HELP to SUCCEED and gain more KNOWLEDGE as im COMMITTED to do whats RIGHT " this last statememt i just made up quickly at 8.40 am as just woke up but this uses more positive words and positivity breeds positivity,i find this helps as im telling my self positive things,at first i was like this is bs and wont work but it does if you want it to.
Anyway i wish you all POSITIVE stuff you WILL do to OBTAIN a SUCCESSFULL reef tank ^_^

You may be correct but doesn't good bacteria consume bad?! it happens in your gut all the time. Just because the rock is live does not mean the tank is mature, it takes time for the good bacteria population to get big enough to control the bad. lawd.

My water was a little cloudy few weeks back. Small bacteria bloom but as soon as I got phosphate and nitrates numbers off 0, it went away. Now I only need to lightly wipe the glass every 3 or 4 days. Water is very clear now. I run Maxout and purigen in media cup along with a filter sock. I dose microbacter clean once a week.

So are you just going without coral now?
Well right now i have softies only.. my latest attempt at an LPS was 2 months ago and it was on a candy cane. It ended up dying but luckily i managed to save it by giving it to a friend temporarily. I just ordered a RODI unit and i will be doing regular WCs now. Maybe the lack of WCs led to the death of my lps, that's what Im hoping for at least. If it isnt my WCs, then im afraid that it might be my light (its 70W at full power).

I first thought I could manage water changes by getting rodi from my LFS but that lasted a few weeks and I bought my own unit. Much easier and making 10 gallons of salt water is easy.

I'm still trying to figure out how the jelly arrived in my tank. Only bought corals from 2 well known sources. Dipped them prior, everything was fine. I have not added anything in 4 weeks then all of a sudden there it is. It must stay dormant somehow and then gets triggered to cone alive again.

It is a mystery.. a very annoying one.

Yeah. I’ve been lucky. Unlucky with fish but lucky with coral. A lot of people go through what you’re going through for no reason. A lot of distributors will tell you they lost 30k in coral seemingly overnight. It happens. My tanks less than 6 months old and I’ve got corraline growing on my power heads. A lot of people on here are a year in still trying to get it right. I really think luck is a factor in all of this. Fish are a pain in my you know what. My male clown loves the overflow like it’s his personal sleeping space.

My clown brought brook into my tank and wiped everything out. Got him from a LFS been there over 40 years and said he was fully QT and healthy. Now strangely that LFS that has been there over 40 years is closed for good. I thought something was up because I had not seen the old guy that owns it in quite awhile and there was some different employees there who didn't know jack.

The supply chain in this hobby is filthy. Always has been. I'm yet to find an lfs whose quarantine I truly trust.

So here is todays update. The coral death toll remains at 4 so far:

Dragon Soul torch
8 head Duncan
Small hammer
Multi head candy cane

3 other torches struggling with one or more lost heads but still holding on. I tried a peroxide dip on one and so far no change but nothing has worsened either. I added some more carbon in a bag in my filter sock to try and see if I can get this out of the water column somehow.

Did a water change today also so will test numbers later and see how things look.
