Death of flower anemone...Why?

I purchased a beautiful flower anemone. I brought it home, floated it, and put it into my invert/ coral qt tank. The first four days it appeared fine but started to decline after that. By the seventh day, the picture of it on the rock is what it looked like. I coaxed it off but then discovered it had a hole in it! I don't understand what went wrong. The only tank mate other than the coral is a peppermint shrimp. I have another flower anemone in my display tank, and I've never had an issue with it. Needless to say, it didn't make it. I'd like to get a replacement, but I'm hesitant to do that until I have a better understanding of what may have gone wrong. Any ideas?

Did you drip acclimate it? Or just float the bag?

The salinity was the same, so I just floated it. My other anemones were done the same. I thought that would be OK.

Everything needs to be acclimated even if you just put it in a small bucket and add tank water every few min, salinity is fine but lots of other things can be very different

I disagree, one of the most reputable RFA vendors official "acclimation" policy involves floating, settings the nems out to expel water and put straight into the tank. Worked perfect for my 10.

To the OP, it could be several things, but Ive also had some that just were never happy and melted away.

I can definitely do that moving forward. Do you think that was the likely cause even though it didn't show signs of distress until four days later?

How long had the store had it?
It could just be too many changes in a row, too rapidly.

I think they had them maybe two days.

I had some peppermint shrimp wipe out all of my flower anemones. i bought them to get rid of my aiptasia.They got rid of aiptasia and all 7 of my flower anemones [emoji35]

Ah, so there's a good chance it was just too much excitement.
Shipping, new tank (store), then getting bagged, driven, and put in yet anothet new tank, all in a 2-3 day span.

Sounds like you had a perfect storm of Nem Nope.
