Well it finally happened. Had a pair of clowns. The intimidation went on for months. Had to fish the smaller one out of my overflow countless times. Did what I could to prevent it from happening again. Well found it dead this morning on the floor. I will never buy clowns again. If I even think about it I will mark an X on the wall where I know there is a stud get about 39 feet away lower my head and run full speed into it

2 new additions today. Love common firefish esp in a true pair
Fingers crossed as I bought one bigger than the other which the only way I know of trying to pair them. They are swimming together but we will.see.

When I get them, to save time, I gently take them out of the bag and throw them on the floor as thats where they will end up anyway.
This thread reminds of of Paul B’s response in his thread. :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Both mine doing well and have not found the carpet or rear of my tank. The main reason for this is a close fitting D-D jump guard on my tank.

Exactly! They need lids!

No lid I gather? Clownfish can be great or they can be really evil. Mostly evil.
Nope had a lid. They were the same size when I bought them. Cleaned the tank yesterday must have left a crack open.

I had two in my nano tank for a few years, but they never jumped (I do have a 1" lip that runs around the rim). I fed them quite heavily, so perhaps they were just too fat to be bothered to make the leap :)

I'd shy away from them, too, since the constant harassment to my hand is a stress that I didn't need while trying to do maintenance within a confined space.

Its a hierarchy thing with clowns - the reason I bought 12 at once and weeded out the jerks as they matured.
Female clownfish are much more dominant than their male counterparts. They greedily try to eat most of the food that gets into the tank (which is one reason the males don't grow as large). They will often aggressively protect their "home", whether that be an anemone, a nesting site, a clay pot or the entire fish tank. If it attacks your hand when you're trying to clean the glass or it won't let any other fish near its spot, you most likely have a female clownfish.
This is how the social hierarchy works for clownfish: There is one dominant female clownfish, partnered with a male, who is the next most dominant fish. The female is larger (often much larger) than the male. Next are non-mating males and juveniles. They are usually smaller still than the dominant male. If the male mate were to die, the next dominant male would become the mate (if the female accepts him). If the female were to die, then the dominant male would change to female and the next male in line would become the mate.
