Deep blue 55 stand

I have a 55 gallon reef tank but want a bigger sump then a ten gallon. But the deep blue 55 stand has these darn pieces of wood in the inside. Blocking me from doing that. Are they supports or are they for show? Please help!?!?

Yes its all setup been for year an a half. Silly me didn't plan on a sump when bought. Now I know how much help it is to have it. So now i want a bigger sump. Ill take a pic when i get home.

I did the same thing with my 55. after a year realized I wanted a bigger sump. Bought a new stand and had to transfer everything over. A real pain but well worth it.
