Deep blue hinges ?

So I have a 57 rimless and the stand from deep blue hinges are starting to rust. Does anyone have this problem and was wondering if anyone knew where I can find replacement ones. Thanks
 
Yes, I just purchased a frag tank and stand by DB, go to home depot and I got a set. Bring the rusted ones and match up the shape, theres one model In particular that fits. You WILL have to bore new holes for it to go on but they work like a champ. 2 pack is like 6$

not a lot they can do.. metal+salt=rust.. even stainless will rust after time.. +1 to going to HD and getting some new ones.. won't cost you much..
 
Real stainless does not rust, if you have stainless that rusted on you then the there was not enough nickel added to the steel.

Stainless, chrome plated aluminum, aluminum, can pit if not cleaned, but never rust, even brass only discolors and pits. All of them can be cleaned and unless the pitting is very deep they cleanup well. I know because I have been cleaning the bright-works on multiple boats over the last 20+ years.

If Deep Blue is using really hinges, or screws that rust on their stands then they are really cutting corners.

Nickel isn't what makes stainless stainless. Chromium makes it stainless. Most stainless steels aren't high enough in chromium to fight salt - most stainless steels are cheap low-chromium stainless that are only meant to fight normal every day elements of corrosion..

While Chromium content is the marker for stainless steal not all stainless is the same, 18/10 stainless which many people know as the "Good" stainless steel has 18% Chromium and 10% nickle. Lesser stainless steel items I have seen that go to hell are some times marked as 18/0 stainless, or just stainless. Hence my comment as to not enough nickle. It may not have been perfectly accurate but life experience has shown me that 18/10 stainless does not do anything other than stand up to harsh environments / utilization and last.

My biggest gripe is that manufacturers and retailers including Home Depot knowingly mislead people with Stainless Steel items with lesser formulations. I bought a 1lb box of stainless steel deck screws at HD, to finish off a deck project after I used up the 6lbs of bulk galvanized screws I had gotten in my order from a local lumberyard. I would have gotten more of the galvanized but that lumberyard does not have weakened hours. In any case the stainless deck screws were a nightmare. First they were soft, I had just driven 6lbs of galvanized screws with out any problems, but the HD stainless screws stripped easily, I had to re-drill my pilot holes larger in order to drive the screws in with out stripping the heads. Then later they started rusting, what the heck!

GT you are right. Im a steel maker. Nickel helps with corrosion resistance. When you combine Chrome and Nickel it greatly improves the corrision resistance. Stainless steel's arent really classified as stainless because of their Chrome content. There is a mixture of Elements that make it stainless steel. Generally speaking you can make any grade of steel with high amounts of chrome. Stainless is usually high alloy low carbon steel. Some Carbon and Stainless steels can rust and that is part of their makeup. For instance a 1215 grade will rust and that will offer its own protection from the elements.


Chances are the company cut corners and gave you garbage hinges made out of junk steel. Their stands are made of garbage mdf board. Id be more worried about that then the hinges.
