What make's it a PE?? Is it just the glowing green mouth?? I have had these for few years and never really see them anywhere else.. Are these just generic PE's..lol.. Not looking for an id, just want to know how you know you have PE's.

It is usually.... a green mouth AND the big one everybody misses...the "watermelon" like stripes on the bottom of the polyps

I think you pretty much got it(green mouth)... But it is a free country and you could name bam bams OGMPE(orange giant mouth p.e)if ya wanted:)

I have other palys that have the "watermelon" like stripes on them when the polyp closes and they are not PE's. For me I would say it's the glowing green mouth!

Im not disagreeing the green mouth... Im just saying for it to be called an actual people eater it is suppose to have a green mouth and the wm stripes...just like for a hornet to be called a hornet you need, alternating skirts, ring, and a white mouth...Now does every polyp being sold as a hornet you see have that? No,but that is what they were originally "nicknamed/classified" for.

I thought it was the green mouth and the first picture you posted looks like Red poeple eaters to me AKA RPE

You can indeed call them whatever you want, but that doesn't make it correct. PE zoas are scientificaly classified.

A PE or People Eater, aka Zoanthus gigantus, is defined by the brilliant green mouth, watermelon striping that is evident when the polyps are closed, a brightly colored oral disc, and short blunt tentacles.

I think the green mouth is a good indication. I mean, doesn't this picture explain it all. Its not a red people eater, but a purple people eater, hahahaha

Thank you for the info to read!!

You're welcome. I know you said you weren't looking for an ID, but if you're not sure, those are RPE and Jolly Green Giant PE (aka Monster Lips PE)

I agree with the Green Mouth and WM stripes. I has to have both of them in order to be called a PE. That is the most common mistake i see too with PEs. They either have one or the other and get title PE.

Dave3112- Thanks for the good laugh this morning haha
