I recently bought a dehumidifier for the sun room where the tanks are. The bucket holds about 2 gallons of water and it will fill it twice a day. I also use about 5 gallons of water to top off the sump every morning. I thought about raising it up on a stand about a foot high behind the tanks and letting it drain into the sump. Yesterday I found an old copper test kit that was about 9 years old and tested the water from the dehumidifier. I couldn't really tell if I was seeing a "trace" of copper or if the test tube was so cloudy that it looked like a trace.

Has anyone ever tried reusing the water from their dehumidifier?

My unit has Aluminum coils, I would not think of using it due to the chance of Al contamination. Copper is much worse, I don't think it is worth the risk. I would use that water in the garden....

i would definitely not use it for top off water (contaminants). elevate it and run a drain hose outside better safe than sorry

I would not use it. It could have all sorts of different stuff on the dehumidifiers coils that would end up in your tank. I also wouldn't trust a 9 year old test kit by any means. There is more things that you cant test for that could be on the coils like bacteria, mold exc.

Yeah no way that is a good idea, plus what does top off water cost $.001/gal? the Dehumidier will be introducing mold and other things you dont want in the water at best...

Actually, top off water cost me .0246875 per gallon. That's not the main thing though. I was hoping I could eliminate having somebody come as often while I'm away to top off.
