I recently purchased a Kenya Tree frag and a Carnation tree frag from Corals Anonymous. They shipped out Thursday night and were supposed to be delivered Friday. They were held up in Pittsburgh due to weather. I finally rec'd them today. (Monday). They were both ice cold. I placed them both in my 12g nano right away. I've never purchased tree corals before. Pictures are below. The carnation began to shed pieces of it's outer skin. The Kenya has no notable difference since being in the tank for about 3 hrs now. Are these dead? If you don't think so, what would it look like if they were dying?

Kenya tree is a super tough coral that can grow out of control. It probably will recover. The carnation, if it's the NPS kind not the photosynthetic chili coral, it probably won't make it. Carnation Coral Dendronephthya are super hard to keep under the best conditions.

Sorry u lost one. But I'd leave the Kenya tree. I've had ones bounce back from an overheat years ago. All other livestock dead except a few Kenya some snails and GSP. tank went to 91F. Good luck

The Kenya tree will probably out last all of us. I tried to get rid of mine by dumping out side and next thing you know it's popping up in the grass beside the house.

Thanks everyone for your replies. The Kenya is very droopy now. It's not standing up anymore.
Unless it starts to disintegrate it should be okay. They can be a little pouty (like all leathers), just give it time.

I had a Kenya tree completely disintegrate and then grow back from what appeared to be a bare rock. It's amazing what they can survive!
Really? Ok, I'll leave it in the tank. (As long as it's not affecting others) I just have zoas.

True story. Like yours, mine was severely damaged in shipping. A couple days after putting it in the tank you wouldn't have even known there had been a coral there. I left the rock because it had coralline on it and thought it might help seed the tank. Weeks later I thought I saw a little nub on the rock. The nub turned into a polyp, which became a bigger polyp, eventually grew branches, and now, nearly two and a half years later it's a very healthy and fast-growing coral that I've fragged many times and need to trim back on a regular basis. So glad it happened to come on a nice-looking rock, or I might have just thrown it out. Good luck with your coral.

Ok.. he is disintergrating now. I'll leave it in the tank and see if anything happens. BTW.. that frag "rack" rock which is magnetic is new. So it looks ugly right now.
