Delivery prices suck!

i don’t know what it’s like for other countries but here in Australia, if I want to buy something from another state they charge $75 and deliver it to an airport ( an hour from my home)
Is it the same in America?

The online sites have way more selection but just can’t bring myself to pay more for shipping than I would be spending on actual live stock

If you're buying less than $75 worth of livestock it's not economical to ship it. That's not going to change anywhere.

We often get free shipping if we spend over a certain amount. Shipping in the US is fairly affordable.

I’ve been to Oz, and you guys have WIDE OPEN spaces...
90% of your population is on the coast, so there are no central mid country hubs for your shipping carriers...
I’d imagine that contributes greatly to the high costs of shipping for ya

I seriously could never bring myself to spend it haha plus it’s not even delivered to me, I’ve got to drive an hour to go get it!

If you’re talking about livestock, US delivery services usually can bring things to most urban areas in a day. For me, it’s a flat $40 fee from a collector in Florida to a major east coast city like where i live (probably a bit more from warehouses in California). If we want it quicker (always the best), we get it from the delivery service’s depot. Airline freight is like $100, and usually the quickest. One aquacultured live rock seller can pack the rock in the morning and i can pick it up at the major airport near my home about half an hour away by lunchtime.

Rural US is different, much like your experience. (Except overnight delivery to a delivery depot is prob cheaper). My youth in Arizona was like that (and when I visited the Outback I felt like I was at home - the place, the people, way of life were all very familiar. )

Dry goods usually go 2-5 day delivery (depending on distance), which is very cheap, or free from Amazon Prime.
