I have a pretty new tank, setup about a month ago. I added some live rock last week and the skimmer still seemed to perform fine. A few days later I used some JB Water Weld to try and keep the rock together and my skimmer started going nuts. The water weld never set properly so I took it off the rocks and pulled it out of the tank. I know there is probably still some small pieces in there. My skimmer still overflows like crazy and I have emptied about 2-3 gallons out of the cup. Any advice or help? Right now I just have the skimmer off. It is a Deltec 1000ix.

Same thing happens to me every time I user JB water weld. I turn the skimmer off and run GAC in my reactor for about 24hrs, then everything is fine.

Keep it off for a week. It shouldn't be a big deal with a new tank. Many don't use a skimmer for the first few months anyway to help the tank cycle and build up bacteria levels.

You could adjust the air intake to take in MORE air, reducing the level of water in the skimmer until things clear up.

But as has already been suggested, you could turn it off for a short time as a new tank will not miss its protein skimmer.

I used to find it effective to use the skimmer to do a water change after using a 2 part putty in my tank. I would drain the skimmer into 5g buckets, turn off my ATO, and replace with new salt water. Normally I could get my skimmer operating back to normal within a few hours doing this.

I don’t have the same skimmer but my skimmer was doing that and I just put a air valve on the air in take and adjusted the air coming in till it went away . It took about 24 hours then took
The air valve off
