Dendronephthya growth thread

1st video of a series that I am doing to track the growth of Dendronephthya cuttings. This video was taken one day after the 1/2" cutting was removed. Today the piece looks better than when it was attached and greater than 1/2" expanded. (Vortech turned off while video was being taken)

Cool! Got any predictions about growth rate before we see the video evidence?

Thanks. In the coral world nothing is ever guaranteed. First the coral will use it's energy to root itself. This can sometimes take a few days to a week or so. For total growth rate to be seen, I am looking at a 1-2 months. This depends on feeding and flow.

2 days from cutting the base has healed closed.

At 4 days and a few hours the cutting that was compressed is starting to send out roots.

(note: tubastrea baby polyp is actual further back than what appears in the picture)

That's really cool....I always wanted to have one of those but always stopped short of doing it.....Glad to see they are out there being taken care of....Good work man! They are a beautiful animal for sure.

Cool topic. I've got a Stereonephthea that is a cutting from someone else that seems to be doing well (have had it since January). I also have a Scleronephthea that is still looking okay. I'm not feeding it as much as it needs, but I've had it for about four or five months and it is roughly the same size it was when I got it. We've got to be able to figue out the mystey of these guys. If we can get a few pieces to make it seveal geneations of fragging in the tank, we'll be on to something. I just finished the latest Coral and the 20' long tank had a non photosynth tank in the equipment room that looked awesome.

Nice.

Looks like you've got a nonphotosynth tank. Care to share some specs (tank, lights, flow, feeding, etc)? I'm interested in trying my hand at a full blown (but not too big) nonphotosynth tank.
