@JoseMayo - Your help would be much appreciated!
I think this is Derbesia but I have not been able to confirm. The algae has covered probably 90% of the rocks, nothing on the sand. It does not pull off the rock; strands just break. We had been doing work weekly (blowing off the rocks, siphoning loose strands, scrubbing the rocks) and had the problem beat down but not conquered. An illness in the family stopped those measures but the tank and its chemistry has been maintained. The tank is 300g plus a sump with extensive rock work and many, many corals. Our LFS maintenance person says it is Bryopsis but it does not have the frond arrangement. I think Derbesia is in the same family? Should flucanozole work to kill it?

Thank you for any advice you can provide!

Well I just called it hair algae. I took advice from another, and just kept scrubbing the rock. I did not have to contend with coral though. It took about 6 months, and then finally just gave up. As BRS said. It took you months to get to that stage. It will not go away in a short time. Of course continuous water changes
