Added a Deresa Clam to my tank last week that I purchased from my LFS. Clam was 2-1/2 - 3" very healthy beautiful looking clam. Was doing great for about a week until I woke up one morning and noticed the clam was open and not looking very good. Waited till my lights came on later in the day and was hoping it would revive it which it did not. Next morning checked on the clam and too my surprise there was about a 6-8 inch worm that I didn't know was living in the tank that was the culprit. The good thing that came out of this that the worm was half in the clam shell and I was able to catch him. Worm must of been living in the tank for awhile without me knowing it. I dip all my corals and live rock before putting in my tank but he must of survived the dip. I have lost some other pricey LPS's which I could not figure out why at the time. I'm thinking the worm has been the reason all this time. Anybody else have had this happen? Do Bristle worms get that big or was it a different kind of worm. I should have taking a picture of it after I plucked it out of the tank but at the time all I was doing was trying do catch it. Hope he doesn't have any relatives in the tank.

Picture help id this worm.

Bristle worms are scavanjurs, so not likely. Are you sure it's a Bristle? I had one that ate my zoe but it was a much nastier one - Bobbit worm...
Not sure it was Bristle. Regret not taking a picture before throwing it away. It was about a diameter of a pencil and 6" inches long atleast.

Thinking it might have been a fireworm after watching a video on youtube. I have seen some small bristle worms in the tank and have plucked them out. I thought I had one that I couldn't catch that I could see a little part of it. When I tried to catch this one it would quickly disappear in the live rock. I was thinking it was a fast bristle worm. Now I am thinking it was just part of the firworm that I have been trying to catch and that is why I was having such a hard time even getting near it. Glad I didn't try grabbing it with my fingers like I have for some bristle worms. Used the twizzers.
