Always wondered whats the difference between these two acro's? I have no problems keeping a Plana. But each time I get a desawali it always RTN's after 2 to 3 weeks. Anybody else have this problem with these particular acros?

I think they are the same , I have 2 colors and they both grow fast

Thanks for your reply. They do look like the same acro to me as well. Just never had much luck keeping the desawali. I have the Tubs crayola and it's doing great.

The tub's was a frag (tank raised )The others were maricultured (bali). I give up on the maricultured ones. Maybe I'll find some one who has frags and try again.

Fonda I will tell you the difference but you have to send me casino money lol

lol... how about we trade frags later. :)

I'm thinking there is a difference somehow. The colony called Desawali, I fragged a few off it, and they all RTN'd. I fragged some off the Plana colony and they are doing great. In my experince the Desawali frags don't do well with superglue. I have tried it many times and always loose the frags as well.

Here is a nice frag of desalwii I have waiting for a friend to be ready for. I cut it a while back and have been holding it for him....

It did great through fragging and supergluing...now you can see that it's encrusting nicely as well! I guess we might call that one a mini-colony!

My colony came from a dinner-plate sized colony grown by a friend, from a frag. My colony is about 4 inches across and that frag came from mine, so I guess it would be considered tank raised by now. It's a good grower and absolutely beautiful.

This is a picture of my colony in January....

Notice that it actually crosses the centerline of the picture....

Thanks for sharing. It is beautiful. I'll try again and make sure I get a tank raised frag.

btw whats the blue stag in the pic? Looks nice as well.

If you mean the thick one just behind the desalwii, it's ORA Blue Mille, if you mean the little, delicate one to the right, it's JuicyCorals Quadricolor Acropora. Before it decided to take a brown period (it wil color back up, I'm not worried) It was Pink, Blue and Purple with rich Green sheen, and mine had Yellow polyps! The colors proved virtually impossible to get with the camera.

Very nice. My ORA millie has yet to color up like that. But it is a frag still. lol.. funny how our sps decide to brown out on us from time to time. I bet its nice when it's colored up.

ill take casino donations too if you want to know what the difference is
personally, ive never had any luck with maricultured sps, ive tried sooo many times that i just gave up with mariculture
if you really think about it though mariculture is pretty much wild just grown for the hobbyist

I have been wondering what these 2 corals are maybe one of the mentioned let me know what you guys think

looking at them in the tank the bottom pic has thicker branches but they are frags so more time will tell for sure the top one seems to table more as well where do you guys go to get info on getting ids for corals

Here is a pure flash shot of its skeleton structure....

Kinda shows you why frags aren't seen all the time....

It's tough getting a frag that isn't a mini colony....The last one I cut was 13 separate limb growth frags of their own right, and the main arm 1 1/4 inches....I cut it Feb 16, and this was at the time of cutting.....

and this is why I refer to it as a mini colony....

It has been on my frag shelf just encrusting on, awaiting its new owner to close on his house and get moved....
