Anybody have recommendations for a in sump skimmer. It needs to work efficiently but not overpriced. My system will be a 40 breeder with a custom 20 long sump - 8 inch water level.

eshopps , ive had one for years. pretty decent for the money.
SCA theyre kinda a copy of a more expensive brand, but i had one in the past and for the money it wasnt bad, i prefer the the eshopps to the sca though.
those are cheap brands that work half way decent and arent junk, sca maybe bordline tho. but if you want to spend coin theres better options of course
could you fit anything larger for a sump? a 20 long goes quick when you start putting baffles and pumps and chaeto in there. if its all you can fit then thats it but if you could possibly have a 40 with a 40 sump youd be happier in the long run

I grow macro "Caleurpa Prolifera" in my disply. The sump will have three chambers. First, filter sock and skimmer, second will be full of live rock rubble, and the third for the return pump. Of course I'll also squeeze my heater and float swith in there somewhere.

And thats what I was getting at with the sump algae in a 20l it doesnt take long for the chaeto to out grow its section and find its way to a pump.
Ive built a couple 20 long sumps for friends and theyre just barely acceptable as a sump. And not trying to knock it or be negative its still a sump, but added volume is very low, chambers are cramped, water level for skimmer will be a concern as well evaporation , youll end up needing to add water about every day
