I just picked up this cool tank! It's 72Lx24Wx17H. I will be plumbing a 75g DB rimless DT into the 135g sump and a 75g refugium. I want to go all out with this sump to make sure I have the best filtration and coral growth. How should I divide the sump up?

Thanks! It was used for breeding rabbits and the store closed down!

Unless they're radioactive bunnies that feed on copper!

One thing that I am contemplating integrating into my next sump is a "water change" section - specifically meant to make water changes easier. Just siphon/pump out that water, and then replace it

I was thinking maybe drill a hole about 2 inches above the bottom and put a drain valve that you can open and close for water changes. Open to drain to sewer and close it after. Then plug in a pump to pump new water into that section. Each section could be divided into 3 judging from the picture so each section will be about 40g water change!

I might even do 1 inch above the bottom so that all the crap and debris gets sucked out too! So first chamber will be where the drain from DT goes into and will also be used as a frag section. Ideas for 2nd chamber? I have a bubble magnus curve 7 skimmer I can put in there.

I did this on a 55 gal tank that I'm using for a sump on my 125, the tank drains into chamber 1 with my filter sock and skimmer located there. and my return is in the middle section. I tee off the return line to feed chamber 3 which dumps back into the middle chamber and when it comes to water changes I turn the shutoff valve to chamber 3. Pump out 10 gals and pump back in 10 gals and turn the valve. Water change is done!!! I love this setup!

I'm also interested as I have a 125g display and a 55g sump I'll be setting up.
Can you post some photo's of your tank & sump ?

I forgot to quote you in the above reply, but some images have been uploaded. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me if you would like.

The water level and skimmer looks pretty high, it's on stilts ! lol

I have four holes drilled in the back of my 125g. 2- drains and 2 returns. How do you have yours ?

How does your sump work ?

Is the left for macroalgae because of the clamp on light or is that just for you to see ?

Your rock work and coral's look awesome there bud !
(Is that the Coralife halide/t-5)

Please give Dark Tang and the rest of us details.

My tank is a typical AGA reef ready 125, the skimmer stand is to achieve a 6" operating depth for my skimmer while trying to achieve max water volume out of the sump. The chamber on the left used to be a fuge but is my water change compartment now and the light is just to see now. It's a sunlight supply maristar fixture, I also have a reef brite rb strip on the tank.
