Am I the only one left that finds natural clown fish beautiful wether it be ocelarris /true Percs maroons I just don't get the craze with the designer clowns .

I don't care much for the all White ones, the blacker ice and snowball storm, whatever they call them.. I can never tell. There are a few that I do like. I have a simple ocellaris clown and a black misbar. they are beautiful, however the Photon clown has amazing color and has captured my attention. Not sure how long I will hold out before getting one of those.

When I was ready to buy a pair, I looked at all the designer clowns, and I liked some of them, but I ended up going with fancy whites. They are pretty much normal coloration, just a bit brighter. I am glad I did because some of the designers look dated ( is that possible with fish... Lol) , and I still enjoy my plain Janes that I hope have for the next decade or so.

I have been keeping clowns since 1987, the only problem I have with designer clowns is the culling. Personally I find quite a few of them attractive.

I'm not a huge fan of designer clowns either, though I can certainly respect that others like them. I've had the same little wild-collected perc for 18 years now, and I never grow tired of looking at it. There's just something perfect about that natural coloration.

I always thought that I am not a huge fan of designer clowns till I saw them in person.

I saw SA Flurry at RAP NY and it was amazing.

U really liked then and got them. Everyday I look at them I think I made the right decision.

So in pictures I didn't really care for them. But in reality they looked awesome.

I am also a fan of the originals.

I remember breeding freshwater fish, we would cull the ones that weren't perfect.

Never been a fan of any designer clowns myself. They may occur "naturally", and some would say pairing and breeding the mutations is a "natural" process, but to me, it's just not natural. No disrespect to my friends who breed and sell them, but just not my thing. Longfins I've seen in person have one large pectoral and one small, seemingly a handicap.

I have both and each has its own beauty.
Imstill have my 15 yrs old maroon clown pair, a pair of perculas and a pair of platinums.
As time goes and the designer clowns grow and the colors lines become more pronounced they tend to look even nicer. Its just a personal preferrence.

I also don't like designer clownfish, I like the regular ocellaris

I like the "designer" clownfish as well. As long as the fish is healthy and doesn't seem to be "mutated" by inferior breeding practices I personally dont see any harm in it.

I personally like designer clowns it brings a wider variety to the table. Also the more tank raised livestock the better. These fish are creates by simple breeding and selection the same as nature would do. You change the variables you change the outcome.

I would like to add I only appreciate designer clowns when done right. Breeding unhealthy traits into fish is not cool.

If the current designer clowns were found in the ocean, rather than the normal clowns that are there now, then everybody would be paying hundreds of dollars for today's "normal" clowns. People want what is new......I think both are beautiful.

Personally, I don't like them, mainly because of the price. I don't see the point to pay upwards to several hundred dollars for a clown with a different design, But everyone has their own preferences, my wife and I go through the the same thing with GloFish, versus the natural strain of tetras.

I always like the original clowns as well. I have always liked the maroons a little more. But the one designer clown I may buy someday is the Lightning clowns which is still a maroon :)

I like some of them but for the most part I do not think there is enough of a difference between them and the normal one to justify the price for me.

What fascinates me is that nature placed its markings in just the right way so it will blend in with an anemone . To me nature rules on this one
