Ok so I know there are designer clowns with crazy amounts of variations...but what about others...are their designer tangs? Or are the purples, black, and gem tangs the "designer" versions.

sent from never never land...

Well...most of the "designer" clowns look the way they do because of captive breeding and being able to choose particular fish to pair with similar fish to stablize genetic lines and so forth. For the most part, this has been done with just clowns, mainly because they are pretty easy to breed and keep in captivity. "Designer" tangs don't exist in the same way as tangs aren't being captive bred on a large scale, although major progess has been made on that front. There are likely variations in wild caught specimens, but not like an extremely misbarred clown.

That is what I figured, but wasn't sure if there was some other types of fish that breed well that they were attempting to selective breed.

several types of goldfish, bettas, glofish, tetras, chiclids... lots of fw fish are geneticlly modified. as for sw i dont know of any other than the clowns which as stated above are not geneticlly modified they get the odd colorations from selective breading. GLOfish were actually created in a lab where they extracted a flourescent protein gene from a jellyfish then inserted the gene into the genomes of the fish.

the goldfish with bubble eyes and multiple tails are not acts of nature and neither are the elaborate fins of the widely available betta.

When I throw him in the lake he is a designer fish! Timber wolf malamute lol

Selectively bred and genetically enhanced are two completely different things. You are right the glo-fish are genetically enhanced but bettas and goldfish are not. They are selectively bred with with other fish with like features to bring out that particular feature. Selective breeding take many generations to achieve and has been going on through out history with all types of animals.

There are some hybrid tangs and angels which is essentially the same thing though they don't breed as easily as clowns or FW fish so that's why they see not so common though some have reached the aquarium trade.

My cat once took a swim in my tank, I guess that would make her a Bengal catfish, lol. I once looked into a wolf hybrid but I don't think they are legal in CT.

They weren't where he came from. The previous owners just said it was a husky. Lol. He was an out of state rescue. Great dog! Loving, kind, good with kids cats and small dogs. Little stupid but the most loyal dog I have and will ever own. Archer the wolamute. More than a dog less than a wolf.
