Desjardini Ich or Velvet

I honestly cannot fell anything from this video, other than the fact that this looks like a regular Sailfin tang, not a Desjardini. This is their juvenile coloration.

Can you post pics instead of video?

+1, regular sailfin.

Can't see anything on the fish in videos. Clear, high def pictures will help. Video does show what appears to be faster than normal gill movement. How long has the fish been in QT?

I can't say definitively either way either. I do see some larger spots that could be ich...any other symptoms? Swimming into flow, light sensitivity, etc?

Either way, it's breathing looks to be labored so I'd suggest treatment sooner than later. If you follow the emergency treatment protocol on post #2 on the link below, it will get him relief and address both parasites:
Velvet (Amyloodinium ocellatum)

Thank you for everyone's replies so far.

Ngoodermuth, I stayed up late last night and did the emergency procedures you linked to. I used ruby reef rally. Final step of process was copperSafe. I don't have CP.

This morning he is still alive. He appeared to tolerate the procedures well last night. I'm at work now, will update after work.

And thank you much to those letting me know this is a regular sailfin.
No problem, friend!

Thanks for your diligence to this fish! Speaks volumes about you!

Well, not great news. The tang is again covered in white spots and is back to breathing fast. Not sure what to do. API Copper test shows clearly between 1.0 and 2.0. He is currently eating though.

A chemetrics copper test will be here tomorrow.

Is he in a quarantine tank or a DT? If in a quarantine the rock will absorb most of the medicine and basically useless.

He’s in QT. Those two rocks in the video were removed (and replaced with PVC) right before coppersafe went in.

He is breathing very rapidly

I used Rid Ich when my chevron got ich from a baby hippo after week he was good and happy and now back into my DT

From my experience if the fish has been alive longer than a week it is not velvet. Again this is what I’ve experienced. More so than other it’s ich if you have any suspicion. Very hard to tell from the video.

That depends — it can lie dormant for 30 days or more if the fish has been kept in subtherapeutic levels of copper.

Thank you for asking. He’s still alive, but still covered in white spots. And he is still breathing very rapidly. I’m afraid if something doesn’t change soon that he won’t make it. I’m not sure what to do.

Coppersafe is still dosed at 1.9 ml/gallon

He is eating mysis shrimp.

I had a tang covered in ich and used coppersafe and though out the whole treatment his breathing was very rapid. If I’m not mistaken copper can cause this in fish especially tangs that are sensitive try to minimize stress while treating. I kept my lights off on my quarantine tank because of this.
