Okay guys need some advice here.......
I have a Desjardini Sailfin Tang with HLLE and I have been reading that Carbon and poor diet can cause HLLE not sure how true all that is...
I want to get the BRS GFO & Carbon Reactor – Dual.... I would not be able to run the carbon side of the reactor would I if that is really true that carbon causes HLLE.
Is that correct?

just my opinion
I would run carbon passive in sump keep good water quality
and try to get it to eat a good diet of frozen pellets and nori. also can try to soak foods in selcon or vit c
as long as you can get to eat a good amount of good stuff it should start to go away. may want to check your tank also for stray voltage have heard that to be a cause as well

How big is your tank? If it's too small the fish may feel stressed. There is some evidence that certain types of GAC (lignite) is a contributing factor. I have a few tangs, use the BRS ROX 0.8, in a reactor 24/7 for many years, and have never had a problem. I think the consensus is the main factors are going to be: stress, water quality and diet. It may be a combination of all. So, you might review those three possibilities in your system. If you aren't feeding any type of algae, I'd start adding some to their diet. I use a magnetic clip, that works great.

My tank is a 125 gallon tank. I feed Nori sheets everyday along with the home made fish food along with selcon & garlic ran out of the Vit C though. Veggie flake food as well. I will read that article and check for stray voltage.

If you are feeding what you say you are. Then it must be the carbon. Our Desjardini had some HLLE when I got it a year ago. You can hardly tell now.

He looks the dame size as mine. I just wish his would heal up. It has been about 6months since I moved him into the 125 and there has been no carbon in this tank but he was in a tank that did have carbon in the filter system I was using. I guess it is going to take a long time to heal it is pretty deep.

Take some pics now to compare later. How big is your tang? If it has growing to do it would seem more likely heal. Ours is about 8-10 inches.
