Background
I've been keeping a saltwater aquarium for a little bit more than two years now, and I've been lurking on here for a similar period of time (actually joined in Oct 2014), but now I'm finally getting it together to start a thread.
The Tank
I have a standard 29 gallon with a sump, but I decided that I wanted something smaller to stare at while I worked at my desk. As such, in the last month, I've setup this fluval spec iii for my desk
Equipment
Fluval Spec iii $50
Finnex Digital Titanium Heater $25
Eheim Compact 600 Pump $30
Eheim PowerLED Blue/White $45
Innovative Marine SpinStream $23
Woods Digital Timer $9
--------------------------------------------------------
Total $182
Livestock
~4 Pounds of RealReef Rock $40
2 Pounds of Fiji Pink Arag-Alive $0
Redhead Goby $20
Green Zoanthids $20
Encrusting Hydnophora $35
-------------------------------------------------------
Total $115
Total Investment $297....and counting
Filtration
With a small piece of rubber, I've blocked the hole near the bottom of the false wall that would normally keep the spec from surface skimming. Water flows down through the sponge (which I cut in half) and some chemi-pure blue, and then the heater before going into the pump chamber. The pump chamber fits the Eheim compact 600 without any modification, and it pumps water through the spinstream for some random flow without having to put anything large inside of the display.
Full Tank Shot (01/03/2016)
I'll try to update as much as possible and if anyone has any questions about the equipment and/or livestock, or wants pictures of something specific, please let me know!
