How do you guys determine what size plumbing to use on your overflow and return plumbing? What "rules" are out there?

I'm setting up a frag tank that holds 21g and the sump is about the same size. I'm leaning towards using 1" drain and 1/2" return. I'm thinking 300-400 gph. Does that sound about right?

Yeah, that size can handle a lot more than that though. Well, are you going to run the drain as a siphon or as a durso? If durso, then that works. Make sure return pump isn't too big though.

Yeah. Single drain line, so I'll run it as a durso. Definitely planning to stay small on the return pump. Thanks!! :-)

responded to your other post, but I like sicce syncras, 2.0 would work for you I believe.
EDIT: just looked at the link and it's worth it to save the money. Can't believe it's only $27!!!
