Detritus built up in hours...

Looks like diatoms to me, let them run their course. diamond will help dissipate them as well, but not necessary.

My opinion; Nassarius snails are you sand beds best friend.

A tad more flow couldn't hurt either.

The diatoms will burn them selves out naturally.

I do love my goby / shrimp pair, but don't recommend getting critters to solve any tank issues unless you really want that critter.

Diamond Goby is on my must haves list. I was only waiting because the lfs thinks I will have a 2nd cycle due to 60+ pounds of dry rock and how fast my tank cycled in 1 week and never spiked over 20 nitrates. Now I'm 2 weeks in with the damsels with no change but the diatoms. For or against diamond Goby at this point?

Sit back and relax. Allow the tank some time to cycle fully. I like starting with live rock and if it doesn't have a large amount of die off the tank may show little or no cycle but once you add fish and begin to feed you may find you don't have enough bacteria to keep the water conditions at a healthy level for more additions for a while yet.

I agree with Harold. I had a tank years ago that cycled really, really quickly. Just as Harold alludes to, not enough bacteria was available and I had problems caused by additions. Just be patient and go very slowly. Adding bacteria can help speed things up if you are not real patient :)
