Detritus in water, not crystal clear.....

Hello,

I just noticed that my water is not crystal clear any more. I already did partial water change.

My tank is 40 gallon with 20 gallon sump. I have pre-filter socket. 1 fish only. Others died due to white spots. 15 blue leg hermit crabs. That's all the stuff.

1. Will detritus kill coral?
2. Will strong water flow kill coral ?
3. What should I do to have crystal clear water?

How long has your tank been setup? How much live rock? Could the white spots be ICH?

My tank has been set for about 8 weeks. I do not think the detritus is ICH cell. The fish died due to white spot, which I think is ICH.

Sounds like it might still be cycling and maturing. How much live rock? Was it dry rock when you started or live?

1) It's not the detritus that will kill the coral, but the nitrates released from the detritus that could be detrimental to your coral.
2) different corals prefer different water flow. But some type flow is good because it can keep detritus in the water column where it can be filtered out.
3) for clear water, do water changes, protein skimmer, siphon your substrate when needed and get a carbon reactor.
