Quick question - Can someone tell me why I need to buy spectrapure's MaxCap DI Resin Canister over the BRS sing canister.

BRS is $40 while the MaxCap is $80.

Is there really that big of a difference?

I am assuming you are comparing this:
http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/single-deionization-canister.html $40

to this:
http://spectrapure.com/RO-RODI/ADD-ONS/MaxCap®-D1-Single-Stage-DI-System-Add-On-w-SuperDI-Cartridge $70

Note the first one is a standard 16 oz DI cartridge in a housing with in and out fittings. The second one is a 30% larger DI cartridge filled with a proprietary blend of reef specific resin designed to make a standard DI cartridge last about 3-4 times longer in a dual DI set up. It also includes an inline dual TDS meter to monitor the TDS out of each DI cartridge so you can catch the first DI before it starts to exhauste the second DI. Yes there is a big difference. When I switched from a normal 75 GPD RO/DI to the MaxCap dual DI system my DI life went from 150 measured gallons to 830 measured gallons on the very first MaxCap cartridge and 3000 gallons on the first SilicaBuster DI before it needed replacing. Huge savings in DI replacements and the upgrade quickly paid for itself and has been saving not only money but landfill space with all the spent resin beads too. Spectrapure explains the differences in their FAQ section.

Thanks AZ, I guess when I posted I forgot to mention a few things. Then in some further research I discovered a few mistakes I made in what I was hoping to do.

I'd like to the silica buster onto an existing system. I did not realize this resin didn't come refillable, you have to buy a whole new cartridge. Will a silica buster cartridge fit into a BRS single canister or are they specially designed for spectrapure canisters?

Edit - I already have two TDS meters that I could use to monitor

The DI cartridges will all fit in a standard 10" canister. For the couple $$ more it is worth it to get the Super version of the MaxCap or SilicaBuster as it gives you a much longer resin life so ends up costing quite a bit less per treated gallon.
Notice when you look at a Spectrapure MaxCap or SilicaBuster, the resin is installed in layers and not all blended together. One of the things they have learned over the last 30 years is to take advantage of the different pH and electrical property changes that happen within the resin beds. If the resin is all blended together such as if you bought a bulk refill and packed it yourself it would not last nor work the same, this is why they don't sell either in bulk.

Ok great, does the MaxCap version have a silica buster cartridge that fits properly into it? I wasn't seeing a larger silicabuster refill.

I have notices that they are separate beds or resin, is it not possible to sell two bags of each resin and layer to some set of instructions?

I didn't know if I could re-purpose an old RO/DI unit and put the cartridges into that vs. buying new ones...if that makes sense?

Thank you very much I missed in the description they have the High Capacity listed for the cartridge.
