Hi,
Just checking to see if this around what everyone else is getting or there about. I have a 6 stage RO/DI I have around 225-230 TDS coming in. 70psi into the system ~50psi on going into the membrane. I go through one canister of DI resin every 60 gallons. If anyone has a way to get more out of them I am all ears. :)

That's a bit high consumption rate. Pressure is adequate, TDS in isn't abnormally high. Likely have some city (assuming city) contaminant causing you to burn through mixed (could be lots of things) Have you sampled the water in/out of RO/out of DI? I use a dip strip just to check. If any ammonia - chloramines - then the right filters might help.

If no ammonia - then other contaminant. I was burning through mixed about that rate (maybe 100 gallons) with no ammonia (after filter), and switched to 3 stage DI resin. Now I still burn through anion pretty quick (maybe 200-300), but cheaper overall and haven't touched the cation or mixed bed in 8 months.

It’s either co2 or chloramines. I’d recommend testing both.

If your incoming water has high pH >7.5 (I think) then you're unlikely to have CO2. Most city water systems do not have CO2 issues.

My pH is >8.0 plus using a chloramine filter and still burned through mixed. Thinking it may have been sodium...but am not sure. Doesn't really matter once you solve the issue.

If you have high pH and no ammonia (or are using universal filter from BRS) then likely it's some other contaminant.

Assuming you have it installed correctly, drain is going to drain right? :) It's happened before.

I pretty sure its both

I use this kit from BRS : https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/brs-6-stage-ro-di-replacement-filter-kit.html

I have a second two stage laying around. I guess I can add it in with a mixed resin. Not sure that will solve the problem though.

TDS meter is right out of last DI so pretty sure drain is drain;)

So sounds like you're set up for chloramines. Check pH to make sure high enough so it's not CO2 (nothing to do about CO2 except gassing off or pay for resin).

Otherwise, I'd be very tempted to setup a trial 3 stage DI cation/anion/mixed and see what happens. If you had only the two, I'd suggest stacking cation/anion in one canister but if you got it, why not use it eh?

Check my thread! It might help you.

Good read. I wish I would have found that when I searched for this problem. I will check the plumbing on mine again just in case.
