Hi everyone,

So I had been lazy for the past month and hadn’t checked my TDS coming out of my RODI. Then it turned out my TDS meter was reading numbers all over place and thus deemed broken. Getting a new one took a week and arrived today and it turns out my TDS is 6 in the effluent. This could explain the algae issues I’ve been having on my 5 month old reef. Is there anything to be concerned about long term with the dissolved solids that did make it into my system?

Also, in my DI resin canister, only half of it has changed color (see picture). It is mounted vertically. Is this caused by channeling? Am I packing it too tight? Too little? Thanks for the help.

Seems like not enough water entered the chamber for DI cartridge. Check for restrictions or low pressure

I’m not sure but I would imagine it’s cation/anion. It’s the bulk resin my local reef shop gets in. Only kind they carry.

Just a hunch I think its only anion. If it was cation and anion you could see 2 different beads in unused resin. Usually only one is dyed. If there was no cation it would not be getting dissolved solids, like sodium, calcium, potassium etc..

I remember when I added it there were darker and lighter colored beads. Some dark blue, some light green. Not sure if that’s what you’re referring too?

Looking at the picture I included, does that look normal? Does it deplete gradually moving up the canister or all over/diffused?

It should look like 2 different kind colors. Like one kind of amber, and one dyed. If its pathing right should change color from the bottom to the top.

There was also a fishy smell coming from the resin/canister so I went ahead and replaced the resin.
