DI Resin Wears Out Too Fast

Do you think there's one installed? It's a Marine Depot flush valve. Oh, and I can't seem to get the dang thing open. I tried running it under hot water. Still won't budge.

Take a old bicycle tire tube and cut it into pieces large enough for your hand. Use them to hold the housing and cap. Should allow you to unscrew the cap.

I had to use a strap wrench to get mine off, there's a really easy way to check if you unhook the RO line where I have it circled in red, you will be able to see it installed:)

We surely do, one thing I love about this hobby is I'm always learning something new:) The picture I posted previously is what a capillary flow restrictor looks like untrimmed and outside the RO line

@Adriifu do you know if your township uses Chlorine or Chloramines??
 
Unfortunately, I don't have any old bike tires :( I guess I'll have to head over to Home Depot tomorrow morning.
I checked the tube. Do you see the restrictor in any of the photos? I'm not quite sure what to look for lol.

I've actually never checked the water for chlorine/chloramines. I always dechlorinate my freshwater tanks regardless. Would you like me to test it?

The black plastic cap on the end of your Blue RO line is the installed flow restrictor:)

And yes it's very important that you know which you're dealing with as they need to be addressed differently and chlorine/chloramines will rapidly deteriorate your membrane... this information can be found on your local municipalities website.

EDIT: I'll be purchasing a new membrane and a strap wrench ASAP. I'm also gonna have to get a new bag of resin. I might hold that off for another week, though. Is this all I need? Thanks.

So it does look like your working with chlorine, which is good. I would highly suggest an inline TDS meter along with a pressure gauge as mentioned previously by another member. For membranes I would suggest either a 90GPD Spectrapure Ultra high rejection membrane or a 75 GPD DOW Filmtec Membrane.

It's not that they are bad, for me it's more of a preference to have an In line meter as they measure the water before being exposed to another container or the air which can alter the readings.

Oh and another note, if you purchase a different GPD membrane you will need a new flow restrictor to match the GPD rating of the membrane.

Oh, yeah. That's true. I usually have to rinse the containers really well with the RO water to make the sure the results are somewhat accurate. I'll see what I can find tomorrow at Home Depot. They usually have everything lol. Thanks for all the help, everyone!

They might not have the meter, my favourite place for those is Bulk reef supply, BUT you can get them from numerous other aquarium supply companies as well as home water supply companies.

Before you go ordering a new membrane, I suggest taking the housing apart and double checking the installation of the current one just to be sure.

By the time you buy a new membrane, new resin, and tds meter you are much better off buying a whole new system.

Get a spectrapure
