Hey y'all, I just added a 2nd membrane to my RO/DI. Would there be any bennifit to pass the 2nd membrane through the DI cartridge?

So, I ran them in series. Waste line from the 1st membrane feeds the new membrane. The output of that 2nd membrane combines with the line coming from the DI output from the 1st membrane setup.I'm not sure I understand how you added a second membrane... it should always pass through the DI resin last. Or maybe not understanding your question
So basic RODI goes 1. Sediment 2. Carbon 3. Membrane 4. DI
To understand what you're doing..
1. Sediment
2. Carbon
3. Membrane
split
4a. DI 4b. Membrane 2
=output
You're trying to pull a bit of remaining good out of the waste water?
The DI sleeve is Ion Exchange Resin. I'm not an expert but there's probably a reason Ion Exchange Resin is the last stage instead of just two membranes to get down to 0 TDS. Someone else might know more about the actual science there.
DI isn't 100% necessary. A lot of people like to use it because (depending on the brand unit you have) it isn't too expensive and it's probably the best way to get all the way down to 0 TDS. A new sleeve for my RO Buddie costs like $15 and I get a new sleeve every 2-3 months.Ok thank you, that's where I was unsure. During my research I read that it's not necessary but I felt that it would be.
I'm just looking for confirmation.

Depending on the TDS of your tap, the TDS of water coming off the membrane could be as low as 10-15 which is totally fine to run an aquarium on as long as heavy metals aren't coming through. If running water through two membranes is getting you down to 0 TDS and its cheaper in the long run for you, hey, it works!

I buy in bulk off eBay and use the same cartridge. Not a bad price and it lasts me a year per bag at least.DI isn't 100% necessary.
