Hi all! This may be a bit long.

Let me tell you - I have had a rough time with fish, especially over the last couple of weeks. Trial by fire at it's finest. First, my yellow watchman goby committed tankicide. Then white spots showed up on my royal gramma, followed shortly by the clowns (these clowns actually were weird from the beginning - more later on this).

I've been feverishly searching this forum for causes and differentials, what to do and when. Waited, didn't want to do too much of the wrong thing and stress the fish worse. Ended up having to fix together an emergency hospital tank after the gramma stopped eating well. Unfortunately, the gramma did pass away shortly after transferring into the QT tank. After more desperate searching and asking my LFS, I decided to move the clowns into the QT and treat. The differential list being Velvet and Brooklynella.

SO. First some history of these clowns. They have always had this very slight, almost dusty coating...the best I can describe it being like their slime coat was thicker or more opaque. BUT, they always acted very normal. Eating well, acting well, swimming around, etc. Being new to this and all fish disease, I didn't think much about it.

Once in QT, I started treating with Cupramine- went up too fast, did a water change and slowed down a touch. Worked up to the labeled 0.5ppm today.
On day 2, the smaller clown had this greyish patch of dead skin or sloughed skin on top of it's head. I don't know if the other clown got a little rough or it got burned on the heater or bumped - or if it was going to happen anyways.
Day 3 they weren't eating super great, but still took a few nibbles. I was feeding them food soaked with Metroflex + Focus EOD. First day and third day.
Day 4 (today), the smaller clown's head patch turned full on ulcerated. Poor little guy! So I decided to dose the water with metroflex. The clowns seemed to perk up(this may be my hopefulness), and ate well.

What else can I do? What are thoughts on what the heck is going on?
I won't lie, this is a very frustrating experience. Especially since I feel like I got these animals and I need to do the best I can to help them heal.

The temp is 78.8 degrees, the salinity is 1.025, there is the HOB filter and an air stone. It's a 10 gallon. I've got lots of water for water changes. I'm seriously considering getting a second QT tank... for if and when I need to transfer them to a sterile tank.

Have you been monitoring the ammonia in your QT? Be sure not to use Prime or ammonia removers while treating with Cupramine. It wasn't clear to me - how long have you had these clownfish?

It is common for fish to have multiple issues at one time. I can't rule out that your fish didn't start with ich, and then it went uncontrolled for a time, and that led to the open skin lesion one the one clown. Copper takes a week or more to begin controlling ich.

I’ve had the clowns for... 3-4 weeks now. They were originally in the DT, now in the QT.
And yes, monitoring ammonia. I need to do a water change because it is just becoming detectable.
Good to know not to use Prime or other removers!

Update:

The clowns are looking MUCH better. The smaller’s wound is healing. Both are swimming and eating very well.

Currently using cupramine at 0.5ppm as per label and metronidazole (1scoop, 10gtank) EOD. On official day 7, as I did not count the first few days adjusting the cupramine.
