I was sitting here in front of my tank and the goby just suddenly started darting around, faster than I've seen anything in there before. Then just immediately stopped and dropped to the bottom upside down. All other fish seem OK.

Any ideas on what would cause this - it was seriously weird...and very sad! Only had him for two weeks and he has been so much fun to watch and has done a remarkable job on my sand!

All parameters good? ammonia? nitrate? Normally a fish won't just die without cause, so check your fish for any signs of disease.

Params from last weekend below. Working on PHOS and Ca...with Photphat-E and Foundation Calcium+. PHOS was down to .7 this morning.

A result of an attack?
I can't imagine who would have attacked. It was just how sudden and quickly it happened! Earlier today he was gobbling up sand and having a good old time...then BOOM! It's like he got stung or shocked all the sudden.

I've checked all wires and everything looks good.

This is the one part of this hobby I have trouble with...I feel so bad!

I had the same thing happen to me but with a purple fire fish. This was about 2 years ago. It was the one and only loss I had. I had 4 other fish at the time and they all survived...u should definitely look into every angle possible but it is possible to have a random death for no apparent reason.

In my experience, the DBG can have some attitude.
You did not post the other species, sometimes others can be rouge and the DBG was a new entry.
A sting, if you have solid stinger like a nem, sure that could definitely be a cause.
Got something stuck in his mouth, idk, sure is upsetting when a healthy fish just goes “poof”.
Your other fish are fine so clearly not your fault if that matters to you.
Just part of this hobby.
You can always try again.
Sorry for your loss.
